Master LMI - International experience

International experience

Thanks to internships outside of France and its international university partnerships, the Master's programme offers its students the opportunity to gain real international experience during their studies.

STUDYing AT UNIVERSITÉ D'ARTOIS

The Master's programme is delighted to welcome some students from all over the world each year.

Our academic course is also eligible to international mobility of ECTS credits, within the framework of the Université d'Artois partnerships (Erasmus+ and cooperation agreements).

STUDYing outside of france

The students are offered the opportunity to study in partner universities within the scope of the Erasmus+ programme or as part of cooperation agreements concluded by Université d'Artois.

Strongly encouraged although not mandatory, mobility is a real asset on a student's CV for an international career.

Subject to acceptance, some students prepare a double degree with one of our Master's partner universities:

doing an internship abroad

The two internships (one each year) are a full part of this course in order to gain professional experience.
It is compulsory that at least one of the two internships is conducted outside of France.

The first year internship should last at least 2 months, whereas the second year internship should cover at least 6 months.

With this extensive experience, the Master's students integrate the professional world, discover new cultures and are initiated into specific jobs and work tools.

Moreover, the internship(s) abroad allow(s) students to practice their intercultural skills and start an international career.

FINDING AN INTERNSHIP

To help them search for an internship, students follow a class in "Career development" and can rely on various resources offered by Cap Avenir, the university's career centre.

My name is Francesca Bacchilega, I'm 23 years old, originally from Italy, and I'm a second-year student of the Master LMI at Artois university.
From September 2023 to January 2024, I spent an exchange semester in Porto, Portugal, attending ISCAP university.

The first difference I noticed when I started this experience was how incredibly foreign friendly the city and the university were. Everybody speaks English, the ISCAP course offer in English is very wide, also among the regular students there are many internationals and the Portuguese students have no problem talking in English to include everybody.

A second aspect that I found remarkable is how informal the relationship with the professors is. You address them by their first names and the courses are almost exclusively seminars where interaction is an essential element that can make up to the 50% of your final grade. This approach encourages debate and critical thinking, values the student's opinions and allows sharing different worldviews. I was genuinely happy to go to class and learning felt incredibly stimulating and fun.

Additionally, I was positively surprised by the excellent organization of the university, the international office and the overall Erasmus experience. All processes went smoothly and every email was answered within a short time.

Needless to say, the Portuguese people are very welcoming, friendly and open-minded. I don't think I remember any negative interaction with a local throughout the semester.

To conclude, I couldn't recommend this country and this university more. I'm very grateful for this experience and I will forever cherish the beautiful memories I've made.

My advice for incoming students is to start looking for housing very early, to ask a local about the city zones before purchasing a transport subscription and to sign up for a Portuguese course.

Thank you for reading and I hope there will be more new Iscapianos from the LMI master in the years to come!
