ACADEMIC EXCHANGE IN PORTO :

Francesca Bacchilega (Former LMI master’s student 2022/24) :

My name is Francesca Bacchilega, I'm 23 years old, originally from Italy, and I'm a second-year student of the Master LMI at Artois university.

From September 2023 to January 2024, I spent an exchange semester in Porto, Portugal, attending ISCAP university.

The first difference I noticed when I started this experience was how incredibly foreign friendly the city and the university were. Everybody speaks English, the ISCAP course offer in English is very wide, also among the regular students there are many internationals and the Portuguese students have no problem talking in English to include everybody.

A second aspect that I found remarkable is how informal the relationship with the professors is. You address them by their first names and the courses are almost exclusively seminars where interaction is an essential element that can make up to the 50% of your final grade. This approach encourages debate and critical thinking, values the student's opinions and allows sharing different worldviews. I was genuinely happy to go to class and learning felt incredibly stimulating and fun.

Additionally, I was positively surprised by the excellent organization of the university, the international office and the overall Erasmus experience. All processes went smoothly and every email was answered within a short time.

Needless to say, the Portuguese people are very welcoming, friendly and open-minded. I don't think I remember any negative interaction with a local throughout the semester.

To conclude, I couldn't recommend this country and this university more. I'm very grateful for this experience and I will forever cherish the beautiful memories I've made.

My advice for incoming students is to start looking for housing very early, to ask a local about the city zones before purchasing a transport subscription and to sign up for a Portuguese course.

Thank you for reading and I hope there will be more new Iscapianos from the LMI master in the years to come !

INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP

Gwendeline Laude (Former LMI master’s student 2022/24) :

Hello! I'm Gwendeline, a recent graduate from the 2021/2023 LMI Master's program at the University of Artois. My passion for logistics, coupled with a desire to work in a Spanish-speaking environment, led me to pursue the Master LMI. Over the two years of training, I acquired diverse expertise in logistics, international trade, import/export, and more. The program's mandatory international internship further fueled my interest, prompting me to embark on a rewarding journey to South America.

My initial efforts to secure an internship in a French agency in Peru proved challenging due to the ongoing telework situation caused by the critical health conditions in the country. Undeterred, I expanded my search to Arequipa, ultimately securing a two-month internship through persistent outreach. The International Relations department of the university played a crucial role in guiding me through the necessary steps for a smooth transition.

During my internship, I served as a Content Manager, responsible for enhancing the agency's online presence. Despite initial challenges with Wordpress, I adapted quickly and successfully improved the site's SEO. The unique duality of managing both the website and social media offered a rich learning experience, broadening my skill set.

Beyond the professional growth, immersing myself in a different culture was profoundly enriching. Living and working in South America not only refined my Spanish language skills but also exposed me to the distinct nuances of the language in this region. The experience was transformative on a personal and professional level, and I highly recommend others to seize similar opportunities.

Moreover, the internship provided ample chances for exploration, from the Bolivian border to a 3-day trek in the world's second-deepest canyon, Machu Picchu, the oasis of Huacachina in the desert, to the Paracas reserve. These adventures added a vibrant and memorable dimension to my overall experience.
